The question we've probably heard over more than a 1000 times: what base do I need for my face painting idea? Let us help you! We're going to explain the big 3 as easy as possible.

When do I choose grease-based facepaint?

Grease facepaint is also called theater facepaint. This kind of paint is often used when working in studio/theater with warm lamps or in extreme weather. The beauty of grease facepaint is that it is beautiful to blur, making characters with grease makeup is ideal because you can continue to edit and fade until you powder it off. With powder you fix the grease makeup and it will stay on perfectly.

When do I choose for which kind of aqua-based facepaint?

To begin: there are 2 types of aqua facepaint:
- Glycerine base eg Kryolan.
This type is ideal for ideas you'll have to make with a sponge. The colors will blend perfectly.

- Wax base eg Global or Diamond FX.
This type is perfect for high pigments to use in detailed line work with a brush.

When do I choose for alcohol-based facepaint?

This facepaint is waterproof, and yes, you can even go swimming. YAY! Perfect for those times when it’s raining cats & dogs again. Also the best kind of facepaint to use on prostetics.
